New Labradoodle Puppy Site Launched

August 4th, 2010

ClaryLabradoodles.com was just launched this week.  It was for a small dog breeder of Australian Labradoodles in CT.

The client wanted to be able to update pages herself with new information and lots of photos as the cute puppies grow.  The pups were already born, so time was a factor in getting the word out quickly about the dogs for sale.  This was accomplished nicely with a WordPress blog.  Several static pages were created and the only “blog-looking” pages were the latest news.  The site was customized to include the client’s logo and color preferences.

After a short period of tutoring the client in how to administer the blog, she is now having a fun time with it!  She is also updating a Facebook page for the business that links back to the website/blog.  This will help benefit SEO ranking.

The site will continue to evolve, so check back frequently!  ClaryLabradoodles.com

Chiropractic Site Given Makeover

March 22nd, 2010

This was one of the early websites done about six years ago.  It was time for an updated look with fresh colors.  Take a look at the result here  -  http://drdschmid.com/.  Warm colors, gradients and fading images were included.  Educational information and facts were organized to make it clear and easy to find for the website viewer.  Home page content was updated to help search engine ranking for specific keywords.

According to the doctor, new patients have already found her through the website and have given very positive feedback.  We hope it continues to serve her business well.

Client Feedback Added To Website

February 25th, 2010

I recently made some website updates for one of my existing customers, powerspaces.com.  Amongst the new additions was a list of positive feedback from her clients.  We decided against having a long list of quotes on one page and instead, made it into a slideshow.  You can view it here – http://powerspaces.com/feedback.php.  I used a script that will randomly start with a different quote, scroll automatically through all or can be paused and restarted and advanced manually.  This gives the viewer plenty of options to read these testimonials.  There is also a French version, http://powerspaces.com/services_Fr.php, for her French speaking clients.

The other updates were meant to keep the content fresh and interesting.  Check it out!

Can you trust your mother’s email?

December 8th, 2009

Recently, I received an email from my mother with the subject line “Fwd:FW: Computer Virus”.  I love my mother and I trust my mother, but I can’t always trust her email.  Just seeing this subject line shot up the red flags, but being a good daughter, I was curious to see what it was about and if it was legitimate.

Instead of opening it, I used Print Preview in Thunderbird email client and saw that it was forwarded to a multitude of people who forwarded it to another multitude of people.  Now, I think this works to view the email content without showing as opened, but I can’t be sure.

It contained a message warning of some virus with a Hallmark greeting.  It even sounded more credible because it mentioned some person verifying the threat at snopes.com.  This is scary.  Even if it was a legitimate warning about a virus being passed around, the fact that it was forwarded to so many other people, makes it susceptible to picking up other viruses on any of those people’s machines.

Best thing to do…delete, delete, delete.  And make sure that at least your incoming email is being scanned by your antivirus software.  I still love you Mom.

What’s a Web-Meme?

September 11th, 2009

Web-what?  According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Meme), “a meme (pronounced /ˈmiːm/, rhyming with “cream”[1]) is a postulated unit or element of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, and is transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena.”  To me it’s the passing of ideas from one person to another. This is the intention of this blog, to pass on my ideas to my readers.

I first heard the term from the site, http://www.techmeme.com/, a popular news source for techies.  So instead of calling my blog, just a blog, it’s a web-meme.

Pass it on!
